"Thanks Tonya! I have to say, you guys are awesome when it
comes to Customer Service, and in tough economic times , that is what makes a

MTC – Providing Solutions. Connecting People.
A Brief History. . .
Midwest Technology Connection (d/b/a as MTC) is one of the oldest office equipment
companies in the greater Kansas City area. The company was founded in the heart
of downtown Kansas City. With only four owners in its 90-year history, MTC respectfully
and proudly can boast about survival of many tragedies such as the Great Depression,
the flood of 1951, a devastating fire to the MTC building in 1957, economical downturns
throughout the years, Y2K and the 911 disaster, just to name a few. Each owner is
recognized as a true leader, dealing with the difficulties yet each has been able
to change the company in spite of those times and ever-changing technological needs
of customers.
In 1918, Lamont Wood Sr. formed "Midwest Typewriter" at 800 Grand Avenue. MTC would
be recognized as the "premiere" office typewriter and supplies company, featuring
the Royal typewriter. He soon began to realize that service after the sale was equally
important. And, from there MTC history truly unfolds.
Lamont Wood Jr. worked with his father through the years. After his father's retirement,
Lamont Wood, Jr. became owner. Still at 800 Grand Ave, the company was now more
than a typewriter store. Now recognized for its service reputation, Mr. Wood brought
in new product lines to enhance the typewriter business. He added calculators. Sales
boomed. Don Stanley, an employee since the 50s, formed a partnership with Mr. Wood.
MTC was recognized as one of the first office equipment dealers to market the Smith-Corona
and IBM Typewriters as well as the Hewlett-Packard and Texas Instrument Calculators.
In 1982 Don Stanley bought out Mr. Wood and became sole owner of Midwest Typewriter.
Mr. Stanley's goal was to remain the office equipment leader in the KC area and
he succeeded. MTC was recognized as one of the first IBM Authorized Typewriter Dealers
in the United States. MTC was authorized to sell and service the new IBM electronic
products as well as the complete line of new and used electric typewriters. Things
in the technology field changed very quickly in the 1980s and MTC moved right with
the times. MTC and Hewlett-Packard expanded on the relationship that was formed
in the 1970s. In 1982 and 1983 MTC became HP sales and service authorized on the
new desktop line of HP computers. Continued growth of Midwest Typewriter & Computer
Co. instigated the opening of corporate offices at 410 W. 5th Street, Kansas City,
MO, and soon after, the consolidation of all MTC offices.
In the early 1990s Kendall Culbertson introduced the MTC computer. New
partnerships were formed with such manufacturers as Compaq, Lexmark, Microsoft
and Novell. In 1992 MTC recognized a new need and began remanufacturing laser
printer toner cartridges, in 1994 he began marketing "SprayJet" cartridges for
the inkjet printers. Bringing on a full-time staff to market and manufacture
these cartridges created a booming growth for MTC.
In January 1996, Don Stanley sold all interests of MTC to family member
Culbertson. In 1997, MTC changed to its present name, a name that reflects all
that MTC does. The new name, Midwest Technology Connection, represents the whole
of the company, a company with leadership that can continue to grow and connect
customers to the technical future.
In March 2006 Brett Littrell partnered with Culbertson, became MTC's new
President and started modernizing MTC’s technological offerings, Littrell
brought extensive experience in business development and his skills in creating
environments that foster the growth of an organization. Adept at determining the
necessary path to success and leading the change necessary to achieve it,
Littrell initiated structure changes at MTC from selling products and services
to being a Business Solutions Provider. The addition of the Telephony division
in 2007 and the penetration into the Managed Services arena in 2008 makes MTC
your "One-Stop-Shop" for all your technological needs in the greater Kansas City
area. From Printing and Imaging to Data and Telephony or a combination of all -
our customers can find effective technology solutions under one roof with the
convenience of an experienced Service Department.
In February 2010
Littrell acquired the remaining assets of MTC and became only the fifth owner
since the company's foundation in 1918. As new Chairman and CEO he plans to grow
through a combination of acquisitions, new services and entry into new markets.
Littrell
is ambitious to build a truly exceptional business on MTC's great foundation.
His vision is that MTC solves business challenges by understanding the needs of
its clients and working to develop solutions that bring value, greater than that
which it receives, in return.
Though many changes have occurred at MTC over the past 92 years, the MTC quality
commitment to our customers has remained the same. The same quality service this company
was built on remains equally important today. At MTC we don't just sell a box-we sell
your individual solution and we give our guarantee!
