A Note From Our President About This Charity Event:
How often do you stop to think about how hard life can be for children
and teens confined to hospital beds waiting for surgery and other medical procedures?
Unfortunately, not many of us do until we have to. The time spent by these
children and their families however, can have an effect upon them for the rest of
their lives. It will not be possible for us to change the fact of their situation
but we can make a difference in what that experience is like for these kids.
Children's Mercy Hospital is a name known to all living in and around
the Kansas City area. It would be difficult for me to imagine anyone whose
life has not been touched directly or indirectly by the services provided by this
institution. What many of you may not know, is the effort they make to benefit
the lives of their patients, even beyond the necessary medical and the profound
effect this has on these kids and their ultimate treatment success.
The Child Life Department at Children's Mercy is the unit specifically
dedicated to helping the kids through these times. Amongst the many ways of support
the Child Life Department offers the use of over 10 play rooms, equipped with toys,
games, TV's, and whatever donated technical resources to help create a familiar
and calming environment. The work the staff performs there is truly impressive
and as I toured the facilities I was moved by their commitment. To do so much
with so little exemplifies their dedication and shows why Children's Mercy is held
in such high regard.
The team at MTC has developed a plan to get them the resources for their
play rooms they so badly need. Together with the staff at Child Life the MTC
team will design, configure and implement a comprehensive technology environment
for these children. We will use the knowledge from the Child Life staff to
attempt to create something that will have a significant impact on these kids lives.
To achieve this MTC will be sponsoring this Golf Event at the Tiffany
Greens Golf Course on the 07th of May 2010. I want to stress that
this money will be going directly into these facilities so the benefits will be
maximized. Many of us are concerned about the economic situation presently
confronting us but the need of these kids is unabated. My hope is that you
will take the opportunity to enjoy the day on the Greens and at the same time provide
the necessary support for Child Life.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Your support will be greatly appreciated by the children, families and the staff
at Child Life.
Cordially,
Brett W. Littrell
President MTC
